How many of you feel you hit the snooze button every morning? Complain about what you have to do during the day? Wish that you could be on vacation? Have more money? Quit your job? Compare yourself to others? Want to live a different kind of life?
Our wants and desires are never ending & thinking about all of the things we don’t have will always lead us to live a negative life. You will NEVER receive what you want if you always focus on what you don’t have.
“He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.” Epictetus
In order to change that, you have to practice this 5 minute habit every morning & transform your life.
What is this habit?
The habit of practicing GRATITUDE each and every single morning and all it takes is 5 minutes out of your day.
Gratitude means thankfulness, counting your blessings, noticing simple pleasures, and acknowledging everything that you receive. It means learning to live your life as if everything were a miracle, and being aware on a continuous basis of how much you’ve been given.
Gratitude shifts your focus from what your life lacks to the abundance that is already present. Giving thanks makes people happier and more resilient, it strengthens relationships, it improves health, and it reduces stress. The benefits are endless.
But simply saying you are grateful and listing a few things that you are grateful for is not enough. YOU HAVE TO FEEL GRATEFUL for them. In your mind, body and soul, you have to genuinely feel you are grateful for those things.
This is not an intellectual or mental exercise, it should touch you and fill you up emotionally.
Because when you genuinely fill yourself up with the emotion of appreciation, it changes how you feel and it completely alters the actions you take and, therefore, the results you’ll create in your life. A true transformation!
“Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has plenty; not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.” Charles Dickens
Miracles are all around us, once we have the eyes to see them.
Many of us feel we don’t have anything to feel grateful for because we are always focussed on the things we don’t have or things we wish to have. Many of us also feel it is easier said than done for those people who do already have everything going for them. But gratitude is most important when you feel down; when you are going through a difficult time. You have to stay positive instead of letting those negative emotions take control over your life.
I used to feel the same way. I was always in a state of comparison; looking at others who had all the things I wanted, who were doing all the things that I wanted to do, who were achieving the goals that I wanted to achieve. I was constantly putting myself down instead of lifting myself up.
I was so focussed on what I didn’t have that I was forgetting about all the miracles happening around me each and every single day. Simply being alive and healthy! Most of us forget what a true miracle that really is. We forget being grateful for being in a safe country, watching the sun rise, having a roof over our head, having friends and family who constantly support us. We forget to count our blessings.
How could I expect myself to strive for my goals if I always woke up with a negative mindset?
From seeing the world through the eyes of gratitude, I noticed I started feeling something I hadn’t felt in long time:
This doesn’t mean that you stop striving for the things you want to achieve in life but it means that your happiness is not linked to those achievements. It removes the fear of not achieving your goals.
I realized I’d never felt quite so happy and content before. At least not to the point where I actually noticed.
Then, as I started feeling better – things started happening that signaled my new way of thinking was actually causing the world around me to change.
So I challenge you to start writing down 3 things you are grateful for each morning and remember you have to FEEL THE EMOTION. Every time you find yourself complaining about any aspect in your life, STOP & think of one thing you are grateful for.
This one simple habit has completely changed the way I feel each and every single day. Everything is a chain reaction. A strong positive thought in the morning will change the course of your life.
Today, start bringing gratitude to your experiences, instead of waiting for a positive experience in order to feel grateful; in this way, you’ll be on your way toward becoming a master of gratitude.
